Ingredients
2 Tbsp vegetable oil [30 mL]
½ cup white onion, chopped [125 mL]
1 garlic clove, minced 1
2 cups water [500 mL]
1 tsp curry powder [5 mL]
½ tsp turmeric [2 mL]
1 cup red lentils, dry [250 mL]
2 fl oz tomato paste [60 mL]
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
1.Heat vegetable oil in pot. Add onion and garlic, then sauté until soft and slightly brown.
2.Add lentils and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer on medium for 5 minutes.
3.Add salt, pepper, turmeric, curry powder, and tomato paste. Cover and cook for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally.
4.Remove from heat once water is gone, lentils are softened, and dahl is stew-like. Serve with rice.
